Not “Poetry”

When you talk to me, 

Or others like me, 

Why do you talk slow? 

 

Why do you wait for

Me to process it,
And be surprised when

I open my mouth,
And speak fluently
In your own language? 

​

I am not poetry, nor prose,
And you can’t assume,
By my slanted eyes and dark hair, 

That I will be like poetry,
Needing for
S p a c e s
And
Bre aks
To understand what you’re saying.
